Casper tourism increasing despite pandemic

Summer is almost over but that doesn’t mean the tourism season for Casper is over too.

Brook Kaufman, the Visit Casper CEO, said tourism dropped off in April when it would normally start dropping off around this time of the year, but numbers are increasing.

She said events coming back is one reason why.

“Things are starting to come back as health restrictions look a little different. We are going to see a pretty robust fall season than we anticipated,” Kaufman said.

They were expecting hotels to be about 40 percent occupied this summer, but they are around 55 percent.

“People are looking for open space right now, and they don’t want to fall on top of each other so we are benefitting from that,” Kaufman said.

She adds other reasons for the increase are Casper’s location on the way to Yellowstone National Park or people driving through town on I-25.

Kaufman said they market the town all year round. They lead with all of the outdoor activities people can do depending on the season.
